The Anointing Remains in You
“18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. 21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.
26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.
28 And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.”
1 John testifies that Jesus Christ is the Word of Life, who existed from the beginning, whom we have seen, heard, and touched—God Himself. Just as Jesus demonstrated His love by giving His body for us, we too must live out this love and walk in the light. However, in the early church, various interpretations of faith and false teachings created confusion, requiring a firm defense of true doctrine. In his letter, John clarifies who Jesus is as our Savior and emphasizes sound faith.
Even today, diverse ideologies and values become intertwined with Christian faith, leading to confusion. Just as Judaic traditions and Hellenistic philosophy disrupted the early church, modern political ideologies and economic values sometimes blur the essence of faith. Yet, Scripture grants us discernment, and the Holy Spirit guides us in truth. Our faith stands on the simple yet profound confession that Jesus is our Savior, and we are called to believe in and follow Him.
John encourages believers not to be unsettled but to hold firmly to the truth they first received. We already have the Holy Spirit’s guidance, and as we remain in fellowship with the Lord, we gain true discernment. Growth in faith and knowledge is essential, but we should not chase after new teachings out of fear or restlessness. Instead, we must walk in gratitude and assurance, trusting in the path the Lord has set before us. When we remain steadfast in our faith and walk with Christ, we will be filled with peace and confidence.
Prayer: Lord, we desire to walk in fellowship with You, abiding in Christ, the true vine, and bearing the fruit of Your love. This morning, may we dwell in the security, satisfaction, and joy of being in You. Help us to live not in anxiety but in the peace and hope You provide. Holy Spirit, reign in our hearts, and strengthen our trust that Jesus is our Lord, leading us forward in faith with boldness.
