2 Samuel 23:8-12

8 These are the names of David’s mighty warriors:
Josheb-Basshebeth, a Tahkemonite, was chief of the Three; he raised his spear against eight hundred men, whom he killed[c] in one encounter.
9 Next to him was Eleazar son of Dodai the Ahohite. As one of the three mighty warriors, he was with David when they taunted the Philistines gathered at Pas Dammim[d] for battle. Then the Israelites retreated, 10 but Eleazar stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and froze to the sword. The Lord brought about a great victory that day. The troops returned to Eleazar, but only to strip the dead.
11 Next to him was Shammah son of Agee the Hararite. When the Philistines banded together at a place where there was a field full of lentils, Israel’s troops fled from them. 12 But Shammah took his stand in the middle of the field. He defended it and struck the Philistines down, and the Lord brought about a great victory.

2 Samuel 23 and 24 serve as a conclusion to David's life, recounting the stories of his reign and the warriors who stood by him. David, known for his faithfulness to God, worship, and victories in numerous battles, expanded the kingdom and established himself as a powerful king of Israel.

Behind these victories were David's mighty warriors. These men supported David in battles against the Philistines and other nations, fighting courageously alongside him. They shared David's spirit and courage, and their faith and dedication played a crucial role in strengthening Israel. Despite their small number, their faith had a significant impact, transforming the atmosphere and defending the nation.

Through David and his warriors, we see how God's chosen ones can change the world through their faith. They did not waver in the face of circumstances but lived with determination, grounded in their faith in God. Just as Jesus called a few disciples and worked with them, David fulfilled God's mission with his warriors.

Today, we too are called to live as a small, faithful community in this world. Though we may be few, like David's warriors, we can accomplish God's work with faith and courage. Our spirituality can influence those around us and play a significant role in building God's kingdom.

Prayer: Open our eyes and hearts, Lord, so that we may choose to follow You without comparing ourselves to the world's standards. Help us to experience Your guidance on this path, and grant us the faith to walk boldly in the way You lead us. Though the path may be narrow and challenging, give us the courage to walk it, knowing that it leads to life. May the dedication of the few lead to great works in Your kingdom. Amen.
